Grant Overview
Skills Development for Out-of-School Youth
The Skills Development for Out-of-School Youth grant provides much-needed funding for programs focused on vocational training and job readiness among youth aged 16-24 who are not currently enrolled in school. This grant is dedicated to eliminating barriers that prevent young people from entering the workforce and does not support academic educational initiatives or general youth activities that do not have a direct link to employment outcomes.
The aim is to create concrete pathways into meaningful employment, and one pertinent use case might be a non-profit organization that implements a mentorship program aligning youth with local businesses offering internships or apprenticeships. This would provide out-of-school youth with hands-on experience while supporting local economic growth. Another example is a program that collaborates with trade schools to offer training in practical skills such as plumbing, carpentry, or coding, thus preparing participants for immediate job opportunities.
Eligibility for this grant focuses on organizations that can demonstrate a history of successful engagement with out-of-school youth and meaningful collaborations with employers. Applicant organizations must be able to provide evidence of their experience in developing skills training programs, as well as a clear strategy for linking program completion with job placements. Conversely, organizations that cannot show a proven success in this demographic or lack existing connections with local employers are unlikely to qualify.
An essential component of grant proposals is a commitment to measuring both short- and long-term outcomes for program participants. Clear benchmarks must be established, including tracking job placements, retention rates, and participant satisfaction. Applicants must demonstrate their ability to report on these metrics accurately, showcasing successful case studies of past participants who have transitioned successfully into the workforce.
